Snow Day!

We woke up this morning to a hefty inch of snow on the ground. It's always a sad realization of how much my kids really are Pacific Northwest children- "IT'S SNOOOOOOWWWING!! IT'S WINTER!! LET'S DO EVERY SNOW ACTIVITY KNOWN TO MAN!" Over a dusting.

Normally, we have church Sunday morns but even if you grew up in winter driving- here are a few rules about why you never drive in Seattle if there is more than one single flurry of snow in sight:

1. The other drivers
2. There are hardly any plows
3. The other drivers
4. They don't salt the roads before a storm
5. The other drivers

Basically- even though it was just a dusting- cars were strewn about every street. The combination of that, and those big eyed nuggets looking at us- begging to go outside- we decided to stay home. At the midday hour of 730 am our nuggets headed out for some fun.
Check out those blizzard conditions. Whew.

But, they made the most of it with snowmen, snow "recipes" (remember Lucy's latest favorite pastime- cooking), and of course snow angels.
Snow angels that left absolutely no angel. Go for it, guys.

Next we came in to warm up, watch a movie, and look forward to sledding at Grandma and Grandpa's after some quiet time.

Lucy and I had some heart to hearts while others rested. "MOM! What am I going to name my children?!" Said just as randomly to me as I just did to you.
She decided on Felucy. Let's all pray she has a change of heart pre-child rearing.

Violet woke up first
And just hung there getting angrier by the second as I took too long to assist. Clearly- that drop is sure death. Next, she found her inner emo.

It was about this time we woke Jack up, and headed over to the grandparents for some fun times. It was also about that time Lucy remembered we had said we could go sledding there. One problem- the snow was gone. Mom fail.

So instead of having the battle I gave Lucy a sled and sent her out.
Stubborn thing. Learning that insisting there was enough snow for sledding to work was indeed not correct.

Then a time of mourning and rage began.

Deep thought continued.

Some obviously evil thoughts were thrown my way.

And Violet enjoyed watching the show her sister was putting on.

Finally, a pep talk from Grandma and the promise of cookie baking broke the ice, and we were able to enjoy dinner. Next we looked up from dinner to realize Lucy had channeled her inner Mowgli.

One batch of "Lucy's famous recipe" later, things were officially looking up.
Grandma helped so it was actually quite tasty. Though I do love tasting the basil/salt water popsicles Lucy makes when she follows her heart in the kitchen.

Dance party naturally capped the night off.

All in all, fun day had by everyone!! Even with just a dusting, there is something to be said for that "snow day feeling".
